Arizona Canal

MPFP guided the development of a conceptual approach and prototype for 1-mile of the Arizona Canal, to be employed throughout the remaining 99 miles of the canal. The existing canal was the last vestige of desert in the City of Phoenix, therefore the intention was not to transform the landscape entirely, but to make it more accessible and to develop unique experiences for visitors based upon conditions that can only be found around the canal environment.

This project was a collaboration between artists Jackie Ferrara, Doug Hollis and Paul Friedberg. The final plan created three linear spaces, hosting special ‘rooms’, each utilizing the natural elements present along the parallel canal. Water is utilized in several of the rooms, altering the microclimate to human preference ranges.
