Chrystie St. Hotel
The Chrystie Street Hotel is a composite of a 370-room Public hotel and 11 luxury residences. Designed by the swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron, MPFP was brought onto this project to develop terrace and rooftop plans.
Located on the historic New York City Bowery, its concrete-and-glass exterior façade combines a “refined gritty” aesthetic with a “tough luxe” concept. The exterior spaces are lined with lush green walls and plenty of seating. Using several planters and shade trees, distinct garden spaces are accessible to the visitors and residents, creating a unique space for respite within the confines of the bustling Lower East Side.
Separate condominium, hotel and nightclub entries are set apart by thick green walls. The use of plantings combined with the building’s façade create an identifiable sense of arrival. Moving upwards in the building, the outdoor terraces adorn an outdoor movie screen, ornamental trees, shrubs and grasses, moveable tables and chairs, and a variety of seating. The exterior spaces accommodate small gatherings or private events and provide vantage points for stunning view into midtown Manhattan.
